Dvořák: Stabat Mater
Dvořák’s Stabat Mater is a large-scale choral work of quiet seriousness and expressive depth. Written during a period of personal loss, it sets the medieval Latin text with clarity, warmth, and structural balance. The score unfolds gradually, alternating reflective passages with moments of broader choral and orchestral weight. Rather than dramatic display, the music favours sustained melodic lines and carefully shaped contrasts, drawing the listener into a contemplative sound world. The performance will highlight the work’s architectural coherence and emotional restraint, offering space for reflection as grief, faith, and consolation are explored through Dvořák’s characteristically humane musical voice.
